Attention everyone, the Texas Playboys are coming to France
Deep in the heart of Texas, just outside Austin, a ‘mix of artists and adventurers’, as they describe themselves, regularly gather to Play Ball!
They call themselves the Texas Playboys and, since 2006, have been active members of the so-called ‘Sandlot Revolution’, an affiliation of players and clubs who believe their unique style of baseball ‘represents a new era of accessible, inclusive, and fun again.’
The name of the game is sandlot ball. It’s baseball, but with a focus on fun, on building friendships, with a mix of ages and skill levels, and played on fields – even on a sandlot – that aren’t necessarily in perfect condition.
In addition to their regular match schedule in and around Austin, the Texas Playboys also organize an annual barnstorming mission, as they call it.
They take their show on the road, in other words, choosing a destination and organizing a match or two against a local team or any mix of players ready to take on the challenge.
So what does all this have to do with French baseball?
Yes, as you’ve surely guessed, the Texas Playboys are preparing to descend upon France! Oh la la.
More specifically, they’re heading to Mouy, in the Hauts-de-France region (about 85 kilometers north of Paris).
The visitors know exactly when they’ll be there – from August 3rd to 6th – but what they’re still missing are willing opponents.
This is where you, our readers, can help. Spread the word and let’s see if we can’t show these Texans a bit of French hospitality.
The question is: who wants to play the Texas Playboys?
Thanks in advance
