Ten Years of Titles, Dynasties, and Renewal

French Baseball and Softball:

The 2026 season has just ended. Before analyzing it in depth, let’s take a step back to review the past ten years of major French competitions. From 2017 to 2026, national standings tell a story far beyond a string of finals. They reveal the historic dominance of certain clubs, the emergence of new champions, and the essential role of youth development in the growth of French baseball and softball.

1. BASEBALL — Rouen, a Decade of Dominance

The Huskies, Symbol of Consistency

It’s impossible to discuss the past ten seasons without placing Rouen Baseball 76 at the heart of the story. The Huskies won the Division 1 title in 2017, 2018, and 2019, then again in 2021 and 2022. After Montpellier’s championship in 2023, Rouen reclaimed the crown in 2024 and 2025. In 2026, the Lions of Savigny-sur-Orge ended this streak by winning a hard-fought final against the Normandy side.

The record is impressive: seven French Division 1 titles out of nine seasons played between 2017 and 2026, with the 2020 season canceled due to the pandemic. This consistency places Rouen among the most deserving clubs of the decade, rewarding a sustainable organization, a performance-driven culture, and the ability to renew generations without losing ambition.

But Savigny-sur-Orge’s championship in 2026 deserves special attention. Twenty-two years after their last title in 2004, the Île-de-France club returned to the top of French baseball. This victory reminds us that no dynasty lasts forever, and that persistence in building a program can eventually pay off. Montpellier, champions in 2023, rounds out this trio of powerhouses capable of challenging the hierarchy and turning a successful season into a national title.

Division 2: Success Built in the Shadows

Division 2 tells a different story—one of clubs climbing, rebuilding, and striving to reach the top tier. Béziers stands out with three titles over the expanded period, winning in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Within the strict 2017–2026 window, the Pirates claimed two consecutive championships before the Paris Université Club took the title in 2025 and Metz in 2026.

Metz’s championship opens a new chapter for the club, with promotion to Division 1 scheduled for 2027. The PUC, a historic institution in French baseball, confirms its ability to return to the top-level race. These journeys highlight a form of merit often less visible than that of elite champions: building a competitive roster, nurturing player development, and overcoming a performance hurdle.

Béziers, Paris, and Metz thus represent three successes worth celebrating. Their trajectories prove that French baseball isn’t just about the Huskies—it thrives on clubs that keep competition fresh.

The French Cup, a Test for Contenders

The French Cup further cements Rouen’s central role. Over the decade, the Huskies won the 2018, 2022, and 2026 editions. The Templiers of Sénart, Montpellier, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, and Savigny-sur-Orge also etched their names on the trophy.

Savigny’s 2025 victory, followed by their 2026 national championship, underscores the progress of a club capable of excelling in different formats. Montigny and Montpellier also deserve recognition for their successes in a competition where preparation, depth of roster, and clutch performance often decide the outcome.

The French Cup thus offers a second perspective: it highlights clubs that can win a national trophy even when the league crown goes to another team.

Youth Development: The Future Investment

At the youth levels, the 12U standings reveal strong performances from Montigny-le-Bretonneux, champions in 2017, 2023, and 2026, as well as Metz, which won in 2018 and 2022. Rouen, the Paris Université Club, and other programs also contributed to this momentum. With six national 12U titles in total, Montigny has become a historic benchmark in the category.

In the 15U division, several baseball academies shine: Montigny, Montpellier, the PUC, Nice, and Savigny-sur-Orge have all claimed titles over the decade. The PUC won in 2023 and again in 2026, while Savigny took the crown in 2025. These results reflect the ability of multiple clubs to guide players through the critical technical and physical growth phase.

At the 18U level, the French Cup also honors youth development efforts. Montpellier, Rouen, and the PUC have stood out in recent years. The PUC won in 2023 and 2025, then repeated as champions in 2026. The consistency of these youth successes is worth noting: building competitive teams across multiple age groups is just as significant a measure of strength as senior titles.

2. SOFTBALL — Saint-Raphaël, Montpellier, and Nice as Benchmarks

Women’s Softball: A Decade of Consistency and Rivalry

Among women, the Comanches of Saint-Raphaël hold a dominant place in recent history. Already crowned in 2017 and 2018, they won the Division 1 title in 2019, then again in 2021, 2024, and 2025. In 2026, Évry-Courcouronnes took the championship after a final against the Comanches.

This back-and-forth highlights two complementary strengths: Saint-Raphaël’s ability to return to the top repeatedly, and Évry’s persistence in turning their journey into a national title. The Pharaonnes had already won the Women’s French Cup in 2021, 2023, and 2024 before Saint-Raphaël claimed the 2025 and 2026 editions.

Both clubs deserve special attention. Saint-Raphaël impresses with its longevity at the highest level, while Évry proves it can stay competitive and seize winning opportunities. Grenoble’s 2023 championship also reminds us that other teams can disrupt this hierarchy.

Men’s Softball: Montpellier and Nice Prove Their Worth

Men’s softball also features dynasties and phases of renewal. The Barracudas of Montpellier won Division 1 in 2017 and 2018, then again in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Contes was champion in 2019, while Clapiers-Jacou took the title in 2023, Nice in 2025, and Contes once more in 2026.

This record showcases Montpellier’s ability to maintain elite status over multiple seasons, as well as the importance of clubs like Nice and Contes. Nice notably won the Men’s French Cup in 2024 and 2025 before Contes claimed the 2026 edition.

Division 2 competitions add another layer to this story, allowing less media-exposed clubs to grow and elevate the national level. Merit must therefore be judged across the entire pipeline, not just through elite trophies.

Ten Years of Competition, a Collective Achievement

After this retrospective, several names stand out clearly. Rouen dominates senior baseball through consistency; Savigny-sur-Orge embodies the comeback to the top; Béziers, Metz, and the PUC illustrate the rise of Division 2 clubs. In youth baseball, Montigny and the PUC shine through repeated success. In softball, Saint-Raphaël, Montpellier, Nice, Évry, and Contes have defined the decade’s standings.

But behind these results are coaches, volunteers, executives, and families who sustain the clubs. A program’s value is measured not only by trophies but also by its ability to develop players, welcome newcomers, progress, and stay competitive.

These ten seasons ultimately tell an encouraging story: French baseball and softball have historic clubs capable of enduring success, as well as fresh forces ready to shake up the established order. It’s this balance between tradition, development, and renewal that makes these sports truly rich.
