Softball – Division 1: Evry upsets the hierarchy and claims the title against the Comanches!

Who would have thought it? After a season overwhelmingly dominated by them and a French Challenge to match, the Comanches of Saint-Raphaël see the title of French champions slip away. In three games, the Pharaohs of Evry swept the predictions and won decisively with a 3-0 shutout. A perfect series for a team that, over the course of the matches, became a true winning machine.

More than a Saint-Raphaël shortcoming, it was Evry’s sustained dominance that made the difference. No need to look for excuses on the Comanches’ side, between injuries and absences: the Pharaohs mostly managed their efforts throughout the championship to arrive in peak condition at the decisive moment. A perfectly timed rise to power, all the way to this final step toward the title. Well done to them, even if the third match wasn’t a walk in the park!

A tight match, Evry makes the difference at the right moment

For a long time, the two teams neutralized each other. It took until the end of the third inning for Saint-Raphaël to break the deadlock. The back-and-forth was balanced, the defenses held firm, and every opportunity counted.

But the Pharaohs didn’t wait long to respond. In the early part of the fifth inning, they tied the score before unleashing a big offensive surge. With the bases loaded, Evry showcased its offensive efficiency and widened the lead to 4-1.

The Comanches were far from finished, though. Late in the inning, they cut the deficit to 4-3 and reignited the suspense entirely. The match seemed poised to swing either way.

But Evry held strong. Solid in the clutch, the Pharaohs added a run in the early part of the seventh inning and gave themselves some breathing room. Saint-Raphaël couldn’t reverse the trend: the title belongs to Evry!

The Evry players truly celebrated this victory by going for a swim fully dressed in their sportswear into the Mediterranean.

We’ll dive deeper into the Pharaohs’ coronation, which rewards a journey and an ability to step up when the pressure is at its peak.

Broadcasting: French softball still lacks a proper stage

Evry’s title deserves to be celebrated. But beyond the field, it’s hard not to feel another wave of frustration over the broadcast conditions of this final.

A stream without sound, not even a play-by-play to follow the action—that’s what remains, in 2026, for one of the season’s most important matchups. And the issue goes far beyond softball. The two Division 1 finals, in softball and baseball alike, still lack broadcast resources worthy of their significance.

How can we hope to grow the visibility of our sports if their major events remain so inaccessible? How can we attract new audiences, rally fans, and highlight the work of clubs without a collective commitment to mobilizing existing resources?

The goal isn’t to demand top-tier production like what Sport en France has offered over the past two years for the French Challenge final. Nor is it to single out the clubs, which often do their best with limited means and thanks to volunteers.

Still, an initiative did emerge last year to bring together volunteers interested in video capture and broadcasting in France. A promising lead that, unfortunately, seems to have gone nowhere.

What a shame! Another season has ended, and on this front, too, the chance to take a step forward appears to have been missed. The spectacle is there, the stakes are real, and the sports stories deserve to be told. All that’s missing is a collective ambition to give them the visibility they deserve.
