On Wednesday, December 22nd, a cricket film from India hits select theaters in France.
Titled ’83’, it follows Kapil Dev, captain of the Indian national team in 1983, during the Cricket World Cup in London.
The Indian team competes in the third edition of the Cricket World Cup, held in England in 1983. As total underdogs among the eight participants, their unity under the Indian flag allows them to achieve one of the greatest feats in the sport. Underestimated by the press and other title contenders, including the two-time defending champions, the West Indies, they first manage to advance from their group before ultimately winning the championship for the first time. They united an entire nation behind them and captured the hearts of Indians everywhere.

The film, originally scheduled for release in 2020, was postponed three times due to severe COVID-19 outbreaks in India and Europe, finally premiering this December 2021.
