Division 1 Baseball: The Final Sprint Begins

Division 1 baseball is now the only competition still in action. For other championships, the summer break is in place or the season is already over.

Only three matchdays remain, plus a reserve day, totaling eight games for most teams. Only La Rochelle and Béziers already have a two-game lead.

While the hierarchy seems to be taking shape, several issues remain unresolved. The battle for fourth place, which qualifies for the playoffs, is still wide open. Sénart and Toulouse can still believe in their chances if Rouen doesn’t go undefeated in the final matchdays.

At the bottom of the standings, the PUC still has a slim chance of avoiding relegation. However, the Parisians will have to count on a serious stumble from Béziers, who would need to lose at least four of their last six games for the PUC to take seventh place.

At the top of the standings, the battle for first place promises to liven up the end of the season. Montpellier, Savigny, and La Rochelle are still in contention, but the Lions and the Barracudas seem best equipped today to claim the top spot.

After several weeks marked by the heatwave and absences due to the U18 European Cup, the rosters are finally at full strength. The four games of the weekend promise to be particularly competitive.

La Rochelle – Montpellier

After being swept by Savigny in the previous round, the Boucaniers can’t afford any more mistakes, especially in front of their home crowd. If Krzykawiak regains his early-season form and Franklin de la Rosa and Nieves can silence the Montpellier batters, the Rochelais can hope to bounce back. However, the task looks daunting against a confident Hérault side.

Prediction: One win for each team.

Toulouse – Rouen

At home, the Tigers usually show a completely different face and will try to reignite their momentum. But the Huskies are going through a good patch and know that any slip-up could jeopardize their fourth-place spot. The stakes are therefore high for both teams.

Prediction: Split the two games.

PUC – Sénart

The Templiers have a great opportunity to put pressure on Rouen in the playoff race. A double is well within their reach against Parisians who, despite having their full roster back, are now playing for their survival in Division 1.

Prediction: Two wins for Sénart.

Savigny – Béziers

The Lions are on a roll heading into this final stretch. Their double victory over La Rochelle confirmed their title ambitions. Béziers could well be the victims of this momentum and allow Savigny to take sole possession of first place if, at the same time, La Rochelle and Montpellier cancel each other out.

Prediction: Two wins for Savigny.

Softball: The U22 Aim for the Top 8

On the softball side, the U22 women still have a great card to play. The goal is clear: finish among the top three teams and conclude the season with a reference performance. The small final takes place this Saturday at 2 PM against the Netherlands, who have not lost a game during the pool phase. In any case, a superb run by the U22 French women in softball, like the U18s, will finish in the last four in Europe.
