Baseball Division 1

13th and penultimate round of the regular season. The dice are cast for the top team (Rouen), the second-to-last (Sénart), and the last-place team (Montigny) out of eight. However, mathematically, much is still possible for the other five teams vying for the playoffs. Only three can realistically contend for the remaining spots. As favorites, Savigny, Montpellier, and Toulouse are best positioned, but challengers Metz and La Rochelle still have a shot on paper.

La Rochelle Visits Rouen
Last week, Metz ended the Huskies’ winning streak. The Rochelais will need to follow Metz’s lead and return home with a split to set themselves up for the final round. Rouen can afford to coast now, with nothing to lose even if they drop both games (which isn’t their style). They’ll use this opportunity to give other players some playing time to better prepare for future showdowns.

Montigny Hosts Metz
Metz and coach Shane Priest are hoping to follow other teams’ leads and dominate both games against the Cougars, who have given up on competing this year. Condemned to the playoffs, the Cougars will also try to give some playing time to JFL players and pitchers. A surge of pride from the Cougars is highly likely.

Savigny Visits Montpellier
The Lions and Barracudas will battle it out for second place, currently held by Savigny. Both teams are virtually locked in for the playoffs. This clash is one we’re likely to see again in the postseason. Savigny was lucky to sweep Sénart last week. That luck won’t repeat itself if Montpellier takes control. However, Montpellier isn’t feeling confident after last week’s tough loss to La Rochelle and will want to reclaim second place by winning both games. They’re capable of it.
Editor’s Pick: Two wins for Montpellier

Toulouse Hosts Sénart
Sénart has been sinking this year and completely lost motivation last week against Savigny, letting the score spiral out of control in one disastrous inning. They have the means to rally and win at least one game against the Tigers. The Tigers, however, need to secure their fourth-place standing and sweeping their home games would do just that.

Baseball Division 2

League play resumes after the break with the 13th and penultimate round of the season. A quick look at the standings after 12 rounds in both pools.
Pool A is more competitive than Pool B. In the latter, Nice and Béziers seem well positioned for the playoffs, especially since third-place Clermont can’t mathematically catch them with only two games left. In Pool B, anything is still possible among the top five teams (Valenciennes, Bréal, Paris, Ronchin, and Rouen), each with four games remaining. The suspense for the top two spots will last until the final whistle.
For three teams (Anglet, Thiais, and La Guerche), the season has been tough, and their low win totals could weigh on the players’ morale. Next year, if Division 3 is structured as planned, redistributing teams of equal skill and resources should better balance the competition.

This weekend in Pool A, the clash between Bréal and PUC will be decisive. For the finalist, there’s a spot up for grabs in Division 1, and the challenge is worth it. Béziers and Valenciennes are two contenders, but Nice and PUC, both relegated from Division 1 last year, surely want to return. Bréal could also pull off a surprise and contend as well.
