The Tokyo Olympics are set to take place this summer from July 23rd to August 8th. Despite being held in 2021, they will still be called the 2020 Games. Japan’s strict health conditions are sure to provoke reactions from global teams’ staffs, with some already arriving on site.
As for baseball, the first match will pit the Dominican Republic against Japan on July 28th at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium at noon French time. Six teams will compete in two groups: Group A with Japan, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, and Group B with South Korea, Israel, and the USA.
Sixteen matches in total to decide the gold medal. With Cuba absent, the showdown between Japan and the USA could take center stage. On August 7th at 7 PM, we’ll know who the Olympic champion is.
We’ll discuss the Olympic softball tournament in another post.
