A high-stakes weekend for French baseball and softball
Between the Division 1 baseball final, the relegation decider in D2, the final matchday for men’s softball, and the start of the Women’s European Cup, the weekend promises strong emotions on the fields.

Division 1 Baseball Final: Rouen vs. Montpellier, a clash of titans
The Rouen Huskies host the Montpellier Barracudas for a summit showdown. Two initial meetings are scheduled: Saturday at 4 PM and Sunday at 11 AM. The confrontation promises to be electric, and both coaches set the tone.
Tim Smith, the Montpellier coach, emphasizes the collective strength of his team:
« On paper, our team is well-balanced. Statistically, in the three categories—pitching, hitting, and defense—we finished among the best. (…) Our best quality, which is more important than these categories, is our mentality. (…) Our players are all ready to do whatever it takes to win. There is no ego or individualism. »
On the Rouen side, Quentin Becquey highlights the resilience of his players:
« Throughout the second half of the season, we’ve had ups and downs. We’ve learned to manage frustration, keep fighting, and above all, stay united. »
And he recalls, quoting Sun Tzu:
« True talent reveals itself in moments of crisis. »
For the Normandy coach, the group has managed to correct its mistakes and adapt, especially after a loss in Toulouse:
« One day, an old Chief Warrant Officer, a veteran in my regiment, told me: ‘Adapting is dominating.’ This group embodied this saying during the last weekend of the semifinals. »
Strategically, each has their own recipe. Tim Smith prefers a methodical approach:
« We are confident in all situations. (…) Win the next pitch. (…) If we focus on what we can control and stay solid on fundamentals, no one can rival us. »
For Quentin Becquey, the key lies in three points:
- « Get the starting pitcher out as early as possible to exhaust the bullpen. »
- « Don’t give any bases! Errors, walks, HBP are extremely costly, especially in the final! »
- « Chain together good at-bats. (…) We have our destiny in our hands, now we need to impose our pace. »

Division 2: the survival match
La Vallée du Gapeau and Bréal will face off in a best-of-three series. At stake: staying in D2 or relegation to Division 3. A tense duel for two clubs on the brink.

Men’s D1 Softball: final matchday before the playoffs
Ninth and final matchday of the championship this weekend before the playoffs scheduled for September 20. Nice faces Évry, while Pessac takes on Contes.
The Nice–Évry duel is golden: the two teams are tied at the top, and two matches will decide their fate. Who will take the pole position? Mystery.
At the bottom of the table, Pessac will try to join Contes, but their season will end there.

Women’s Softball: France in the European Cup
Off to the Czech Republic for the European elite. The competition, which starts on Sunday, has a unique format with two group stages. The French team is directly placed in a group of favorites, where they will have to face the best.
The Italians, the reigning champions, will serve as a bogeyman. But the French aim for a podium finish, with a qualification for the World Cup and, further down the line, the Los Angeles Olympics in sight. First test on Sunday against England, a match broadcast on BaseballEurope TV (paid platform).
