May has come and gone with its three French Challenges. Championship play resumes in this order:
Men’s Division 1 Softball
The final and fifth matchday of the championship. Over two days, at three venues (Rouen, Montpellier, and Saint-Raphaël), the teams will face off four times. In Rouen, the local side hosts the Clapiers Rabbits Jacou. In Saint-Raphaël, the Comanches welcome the Pessac Panthers, and in Montpellier, the Barracudas take on Stade Toulousain. If Clapiers, the recent French Challenge winners and current league leaders, push past Rouen, they’ll secure a strong position in the standings. For Montpellier, another top-tier team, they’ll need to outperform the Rabbits and beat Stade Toulousain to clinch the regular season.

Division 2 Baseball
9th matchday of 14. The leader of Pool A, Valenciennes, takes a break. La Rochelle and Béziers won’t face off, as the match has been canceled due to the Boucaniers’ forfeit. Meanwhile, Clermont travels to Meyzieu to solidify their lead in Pool B. Sénart aims to close the gap with Valenciennes in their match against La Guerche. Other mid-table clashes are crucial for the race to second place in the pool. Rouen, hosting Thiais, and Eysines, traveling to Anglet, have every reason to stay in the playoff hunt.

Division 1 Baseball
9th matchday of 15 for the pinnacle of French baseball. The French Challenge has shaken things up, proving that mid-table teams (Montigny) can pull off wins, while dominant sides (Toulouse) can be knocked out quickly. This reshuffles the outlook for the second half of the season. Additionally, several players have returned from the USA and will rejoin their teams (Esposito, Lacombe, etc.).
In Pool A, it’s Rouen’s chance to close the gap on Toulouse (who aren’t playing this weekend) by defeating the PUC. The Parisians proved they could beat the Huskies in their first meeting. Expect Rouen, in their European Cup A preparation phase, to bring their A-game, hitting hard and defending efficiently.
Prediction: 2 wins for Rouen
Still in Pool A, Montigny and La Rochelle meet again in a rematch. They played a makeup game last week and split the series. Montigny might still be riding high from their French Challenge victory. The match will be played in La Rochelle, giving the Boucaniers a home advantage.
Prediction: Split decision
In Pool B, the showdown between Sénart (current leaders) and Montpellier is highly anticipated. If the Templiers Sénart secure two wins, they’ll gain a psychological edge in Pool B. But Montpellier will be fighting to reclaim the top spot they’ve held for most of the season.
Prediction: Split decision
Finally, Savigny hosts Metz at Limeil-Brévannes. The Lions, preparing for the European Cup B, are raring to go, ready to make short work of the Cometz. They need these two wins to close the gap on the Pool B leaders. The Cometz still struggle to compete with the top teams, making this another tough challenge.
Prediction: Savigny wins twice

Broadcasts: Meyzieu in Division 2, Rouen vs. Clapiers in Softball, and in Division 1, La Rochelle vs. Montigny and Montpellier vs. Sénart.
