The first third of the season has come and gone. On this fifth matchday, Béziers pulled off the worst result of the day, splitting their doubleheader with Eysines. Why the worst? Because the top three teams—Clermont, Valenciennes, and Sénart—each swept their respective opponents: Anglet, Thiais, and Ronchin. Meanwhile, the bottom of the standings is falling even further behind, with several teams struggling to turn things around: Ronchin, La Rochelle, Dunkerque, Eysines, and Thiais still have a slim chance to bounce back. For Anglet and La Guerche, the challenges are becoming nearly insurmountable.
For Rouen and Meyzieu, the top of the standings isn’t far off, and they can still aim for a playoff spot.

Teams are finding it easier to play baseball now, thanks to warmer weather and drier fields. However, among the teams that also have a Division 1 squad, only Sénart is performing well. They pulled off a strong doubleheader on the road. To a lesser extent, Rouen secured a crucial doubleheader win against the last-place Hawks de La Guerche, though the scores (6-3 and 7-2) don’t show a dominant performance. Meanwhile, La Rochelle is struggling, much like in Division 1, with mixed results. They lost at home to the Cards de Meyzieu, who didn’t show a significant difference in skill level, suggesting a lack of fight from the Boucaniers.
The Arvernes de Clermont put on a strong showing against the Gambas d’Anglet. The latter expected tough losses, but in the first game, they only conceded one run. In the second, they managed to score seven runs against the 2022 champions. For Clermont, the first game featured an incredible performance by Brazilian Igor Kimura, who threw a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and flawless defense from his teammates. A total of 84 pitches without a hit. Take a bow, sir!

How to explain Béziers’ stumble in the second game, especially at home? A few defensive errors (3), and Eysines’ pitching was tighter thanks to Mathieu KRZYKAWIAK. Lionel TEIXIDOR, Béziers’ coach, had this to say: After a strong morning performance and a well-earned 6-2 victory led by Nick Dazell, the Pirates conceded their second loss of the season, 14-7. The pitching staff wasn’t up to par and allowed the Aquitanians to pull away. That said, Daniel Pilar did hit a home run.

On the player front, Clermont’s LORIENNE Brice put on a batting clinic with an impressive .727 average. On the mound, Rock CUSET boasts a 0.50 ERA.
Next Sunday, for the sixth matchday, the highlight will be Sénart vs. Valenciennes. Béziers will need to be careful on the road against Meyzieu, while La Rochelle looks to regain confidence in Anglet.
