France’s Division 2 continues to deliver thrilling baseball action. After the 4th round, Sénart, Clermont, and Béziers lead the standings. Next weekend will be a reserve day with just one postponed match between Ronchin and Valenciennes. This could allow Valenciennes to join the top-tier teams in the standings.
Looking at the results, it’s puzzling how Sénart could lose their first match against Thiais and then win their second by a staggering 31-point margin. The format of playing two matches in a single day keeps causing imbalances in team construction, from the line-up to the defense, and especially in the battery.
The championship differs slightly in team gaps, batting levels, and pitching compared to Division 1. Fewer than 20 home runs have been hit across 40 matches, while over 230 strikeouts have been recorded.

No team has managed a perfect game, unlike in Division 1. The four teams at the top of the standings have all lost at least one match. None of them will face each other in the next round on April 30th, which should lead to a tighter race. For clubs fielding teams in both Division 1 and 2, such as Sénart, Rouen, and La Rochelle, there can be a crossover effect when both teams play. Given the field arrangements, one plays away while the other plays at home. This roster porosity can sometimes create challenges for both levels. However, clubs that have dropped down from Division 2, like Montpellier, PUC, or Montigny, seem to have found more stability in their Division 1 line-ups.
Kudos to Valenciennes for continuing their live-streaming journey. It’s no easy feat to deliver high-quality video, sound, and commentary without technical glitches, but they’re making it happen, and that’s commendable.
Notable performance by Nick Dazell of Béziers.
