This Sunday, July 24th, marks the final matchday of the 2022 Division 1 Baseball regular season. Eight teams face off while two get a rest.
A reminder of the standings before the last round of the championship
We’ll know by Sunday at 5:30 PM which four teams are qualified for the playoffs and which six will be in the play-downs.
A reminder of the match schedule
The Baseball TV France editorial team has taken on the challenge of predicting the outcomes of the four doubleheaders this Sunday
François Colombier
Metz – Savigny: 0-2.
The Lions won’t let this chance slip away to finish top of the regular season standings. Metz just doesn’t have the pitching to compete.
PUC – Rouen: 0-2
PUC’s collective ERA is 9.62; you can’t expect to win with such a weak mound, especially against the league’s best offense (.337).
Toulouse – Nice: 2-0
Fresh off his title as the best pitcher in the European qualifier, Mathias Lacombe will guide the Toulouse side to a sweep.
Montpellier – Sénart: 0-2
I sense a big comeback from the Templiers. It’s just a hunch, not based on anything concrete, and it’s a long shot.
Benjamin Witte
I think Savigny, Rouen, and Stade Toulousain will each win their two games.
For Montpellier/Sénart: a split, 1-1. For Montpellier, there are questions about their pitching in the second game.
Vincent Picard
Two wins for the Lions against the Cometz. The Lions are on top despite Rogers and Rodriguez for the ‘Metz’ side. Savigny’s mound has enough depth. No surprises for Rouen/PUC. Two-zero Rouen. Toulouse-Nice could see Teramura take his first win. But Nice will only manage one win at best for the day. Come on, a split, but I don’t believe it much. For Montpellier against Sénart, I lean towards a split. Hanvi is back and everyone is there. Priest is playing for his season. ‘K nelon’ will take his game too.
Maxence Esteban
Two wins for Savigny without surprise, securing first place in Pool A after their strong Challenge de France. For the PUC, no surprises either; I can see Rouen resting some players and taking two easy wins against the PUC, who lack a dominant pitcher…
In the South, Stade Toulousain, led by Nolan, Keivy, Kenny, John Will, and Mathias, will dominate the Nice offense, except for Montas and Rouleau, who will manage to hold their own without really threatening Stade Toulousain.
Then, the clash of the titans between the Barracudas and the Templiers; I’m betting on two wins for Montpellier with fairly close scores, just like in the first round, with a clear dominance from the Montpelliérains, who will be at home.
Exact score: 5-1 and 6-3.
Didier Cannioux
No surprises for Savigny and Rouen, who will each secure two wins to confirm their first and second places in Pool A.
In Pool B, Nice will do everything they can to avoid a shutout for the entire season and will split with Stade Toulousain.
For Sénart/Montpellier, beyond the likely split, the score of the match lost by Montpellier will be decisive; I don’t see them winning by more than 7 runs. So Sénart should end up in the playoffs.
