LA ROCHELLE — The third round of the Challenge de France baseball tournament kicked off right where things left off the day before, with plenty of drama and confusion. However, it ended on a completely different note, with an undeniable result between Montpellier Barracudas and Savigny Lions.
First, the controversy! Suspended in the eighth inning due to visibility issues (night had fallen), Friday night’s match between La Rochelle Boucaniers and Sénart Templiers was supposed to resume early this morning.
But given the stakes — a spot in the event’s semifinals — the home team, still fuming that the umpires didn’t just call the game after the seventh, filed a formal complaint. Keep in mind that at the start of the eighth inning, the underdog Boucaniers were leading 4-1, but then gave up two runs.
