🥎 Weekend results – Between suspense, twists, and high-flying performances
Baseball – Division 1: Montpellier edges Metz in a nail-biter
There was one postponed match left to play to complete the 9th round of the championship, and it was a big one: Montpellier vs. Metz, a high-intensity clash that delivered on all fronts.
The start of the game seemed one-sided. The Montpellier Barracudas, solid leaders of the championship, came out swinging and quickly built a six-run lead over three innings. At that point, the game looked over. But the Cometz had other plans.
Point by point, the Messins clawed their way back, fueled by well-placed hits and relentless determination. After six innings, it was a deadlock: 6-6. The tension was palpable. The men under Yeixon Ruiz seemed to have lost the energy they had at the start of the season and even during the France Challenge.
In the seventh inning, Montpellier’s experience shone through. Capitalizing on opponent errors born of fear and uncertainty from the Cometz, along with a few key hits, the Barracudas retook the lead with two more runs, sealing their victory three innings later.
👉 Final score: 8-6 for Montpellier.

This loss seriously complicates things for Metz, now forced to pull off a miracle: win their next four games while hoping for a stumble from Sénart and/or Béziers (currently in seventh) to keep their season alive.
For Montpellier, this win solidifies their status as favorites. The only potential threat: Rouen, still capable of snatching the top spot with a double victory in their upcoming head-to-head matches on July 19 and 20.
Also worth noting: La Rochelle secures their spot in the top division. Thanks to this result, the Boucaniers will finish no lower than seventh, saving their season in the elite. The question now is whether they can leapfrog Savigny or Toulouse to sneak into the playoffs.

Softball – Women’s Super League: A spectacular and original finale
The final weekend of this unique competition. Three mixed teams, built from the 30 best players in Divisions 1 and 2, faced off in an innovative format: lineups varied with each match, based on individual points accumulated. Three captains, three visions of the game, a constantly evolving strategy.
The show was on. Every game was a chance for talents to shine and for coaches to show audacity in their lineups and defensive choices.
Among the standout performers of the weekend, one player particularly caught the eye: Melissa Mayeux. Back on French soil after several seasons overseas, she claimed MVP honors in one of the games, reminding everyone of her immense talent and natural class.
This Super League confirms its relevance in the French softball landscape, valuing individual performance in the service of a dynamic and demanding collective.
