The Pelé of Baseball is gone
Willie Mays, the Hall of Fame center fielder whose versatile skills made him one of the greatest baseball players of all time, passed away on Tuesday, June 18th at the age of 93, announced Major League Baseball. Mays, who brought explosive exuberance to the game in his prime, died of heart failure.
He started in the Negro Leagues and spent most of his career with the Giants, who were based in New York in the 1950s. While the numbers are necessary (660 home runs, 22 seasons played, 12 Gold Gloves), there’s one to remember: throughout his career, he was always selected for the All-Star Game, making it no surprise he’s in the Hall of Fame.
Let’s hear from Barack Obama
