Well done, Shahid! * – From Afghanistan to the French cricket team
Shahid is an 18-year-old Afghan refugee. Four years ago, he arrived alone in France, scarred by war and with no personal belongings. Yet, he carried with him a precious heritage to rebuild his life: cricket. This sport, relatively unknown in France but the second most played in the world, is a true phenomenon in Afghanistan. Taken in at a shelter in Calais, it was there that an educator told him about a cricket club just 50 km away in Saint-Omer. Months later, he trained passionately in this sport that connected him to his homeland. In the summer of 2019, he was selected for the French U19 cricket team to compete in an international tournament in the Netherlands. This adventure could help him obtain French nationality and secure a peaceful, happy future.
