The suspense continues as the quorum wasn’t met this Saturday, December 11th, pushing the election to January 4th, 2022.
Didier Séminet’s departure from the French Baseball Federation to the National Olympic Committee Secretariat has shaken the French baseball community. As both President of WBSC Europe and the French Federation for over a decade, he had been steering the federation’s financial recovery and growth in membership.
The health crisis, like in all sports, has slowed many development project ambitions. A 2020 season with almost no competitions, and a 2021 season played over a shorter period (June to November) have disrupted many club and leadership habits. However, resilience is present, the vitality of French baseball is undeniable, and the will to progress and develop is inspiring to see across regions.
As every year, the sporting results met spectators’ and players’ expectations. Clubs played the 2021 season with enthusiasm in both softball and baseball.
However, the French national teams had a more challenging season overall. Leadership changes, the 2020 off-season, and coaches or players unable to attend often due to health reasons have created disruptions and disappointments in results.
This Saturday, December 11th, marks another step in these changes that hinder the continuity needed for the serenity of development: a new general assembly to elect a replacement for Fabien Carette-Legrand (who took over the federation in September). Being a federation president is a voluntary position. However, like any president, it requires significant availability and geographical mobility.
This new assembly will elect a new member of the executive committee, who will then meet to elect a new president from within. The honorary title that will be offered to Didier Séminet for his years of dedication will also be on the agenda.
This new president will have the daunting task of reigniting the development machine, both in terms of sporting level in federal competitions and digital challenges, national teams, and high-level development. A key milestone ahead: the year 2024, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Federation.
