Weekend results: Little League and European softball shine in France

Little League and European softball take center stage

Two major events lit up French baseball and softball this weekend: the Little League in Brittany and the European Softball Cups, where French clubs faced wildly different outcomes.

Little League: French youth rise to the occasion

As always, Brittany delivered the perfect setting for the Little League. Clubs from La Guerche-de-Bretagne and Vitré once again pulled off a flawless organization to host over 20 French regional selections in the 12U and 15U categories.

In the 12U finals, Nouvelle-Aquitaine held onto their title after a tight victory over Occitanie. Another win that underscores the region’s strength and the quality of its youth development—this year’s triumph came against Île-de-France, who had been the usual favorites.

Over in the 15U bracket, Sud claimed the crown, again defeating Occitanie in the final.

Two finals, two losses for the young Occitanie players—but the silver lining is clear. Their presence in both finals highlights the region’s consistent high level and the vitality of its youth programs.

European Cups: Saint-Raphaël stumbles, Évry shines

On the domestic front, the hierarchy had seemed unshakable. The Comanches de Saint-Raphaël had been running the table in French championships and competitions, with the Pharaonnes d’Évry often trailing in their wake.

But Europe had other plans.

The Comanches, competing at the highest continental level, struggled through much of the tournament. They clawed their way back in the final stages with two hard-fought wins, finishing 8th out of 10—a result that, while disappointing for France’s top softball side, also exposed the gap between domestic dominance and the demands of elite European competition.

Down a tier, however, the Pharaonnes d’Évry stole the show. Longtime runners-up to Saint-Raphaël in France, they stepped into the spotlight by lifting the B-level European Cup with grit and determination.

A continental title earned the hard way—proof that this team can deliver when the stakes are highest.

A shake-up in Division 1?

These European results add a fresh twist to the end of the French season.

Saint-Raphaël remains the gold standard at home, but Évry has just shown they, too, have what it takes to win a major title. With the regular season of Division 1 still unfinished, this European triumph could give the Pharaonnes the confidence boost they need—and maybe, just maybe, shift the balance at the top of French softball.
