Little League and European softball shine in France

Two major events lit up French baseball and softball this weekend: the Little League in Brittany and the European Softball Cups, where French clubs faced wildly different fortunes.

Little League: French youth rise to the occasion

As always, Brittany provided the perfect backdrop for the Little League. Clubs from La Guerche-de-Bretagne and Vitré once again delivered flawless organization as they hosted around twenty French regional selections in the 12U and 15U categories.

In the 15U finals, Nouvelle-Aquitaine held onto their title after a tight victory over Occitanie. Another win that underscores the region’s strength and the quality of its youth development—this year’s triumph came against Île-de-France, who had been the usual front-runners.

In the 12U category, it was Sud who claimed the crown, again defeating Occitanie.

Two finals, two losses for the young Occitanie side: the result may leave some regrets, but it also highlights the region’s remarkable consistency. Reaching both finals is a testament to the depth of its youth program and the vitality of its development.

European Cup: Saint-Raphaël stumbles, Évry soars

On the national stage, the hierarchy had seemed firmly established. The Comanches de Saint-Raphaël have been sweeping all before them in French championships and competitions, regularly leaving the Pharaonnes d’Évry in their wake.

Europe, however, delivered a completely different script.

Competing at the highest continental level, the Comanches struggled through much of the tournament. They did manage to rally in the final stages, securing two wins to finish 8th out of 10—a result that, while disappointing for France’s top softball side, also laid bare the gap between domestic dominance and the demands of elite European competition.

Down a tier, the Pharaonnes d’Évry stole the show. Long-time bridesmaids to Saint-Raphaël in France, they stepped into the spotlight by lifting the B-level European Cup.

A continental title won with grit and determination, rewarding a squad that’s proven it can deliver when the stakes are highest.

Could the Division 1 standings be shaken up?

These European results inevitably cast a new light on the tail end of the French season.

Saint-Raphaël remains the benchmark in France, but Évry has just proven it has the firepower to win a major trophy. With the regular season of Division 1 Feminin still unfinished, this European triumph could give the Pharaonnes the extra boost they need—and perhaps, at last, shake up the softball hierarchy in France.
