European finals and Little League take center stage

Before Division 1 and Division 2 championships resume next week, the weekend is all about the European softball finals and the final matchdays of the 12U and 15U Little League tournaments.

European Cup: Saint-Raphaël faces final challenge

The Comanches de Saint-Raphaël have been battling it out in the European Cup Premier since the start of the week, but the competition has proven tougher than expected. Facing some of Europe’s top teams, the Raphaëloises have struggled to raise their game to the required level.

They’ve suffered four straight losses in their pool, including heavy defeats to Italian and Austrian sides. However, they showed more resilience in their next two outings, falling just short against Germany and Croatia.

Now, they face a must-win showdown against Belgium—another team yet to taste victory—in a final match that could spare them last place and allow them to finish their European campaign on a high note.

Level B: Pharaonnes d’Évry chase European glory

Over in the European Cup Level B, the Pharaonnes d’Évry are writing a different story. The Paris-region side has been on fire, racking up five wins and just one loss so far, sitting in 2nd place behind the undefeated Poles.

Tonight at 5:30 PM, the two teams clash in the final, with a European medal on the line for the French side.

On paper, it’s a daunting task. The Poles remain unbeaten, boasting a .286 batting average compared to Évry’s .281. They’ve also struck out 32 batters, while the Pharaonnes have managed just 15.

But the Poles have a chink in their armor: they’ve committed more defensive errors. A defensive battle could be where the Pharaonnes make their move.

The two sides met earlier in the pool stage on August 20, with Poland taking a 5-0 win, capitalizing on a shaky second inning from Évry. The French side will need to learn from that defeat if they hope to turn the tables and secure a medal.

Little League: two decisive days in Brittany

The Little League action rolls on this weekend with two more days of games in La Guerche-de-Bretagne and Vitré.

In the 15U division, Occitanie and Hauts-de-France currently lead the standings. In the 12U bracket, the race is tight between Île-de-France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
