2025 Challenge de France Final: Metz and Savigny defy expectations
This is it. This Sunday afternoon, the grand final of the 2025 Challenge de France will see two unexpected underdogs face off: Savigny and Metz. Ironically, these two teams sit at the bottom of the current championship standings. A final that defies predictions and raises the question: how did the favorites crumble so badly as to miss the final?

The results of the three matches won by the two teams
The format rules, a decisive factor
First explanation: the seven-inning rule. Out of the ten matches played over the last three days, several close encounters could have swung with two extra innings. This short format leaves no room for error or complacency.
Second factor: the management of locally trained players (JFL). The depth of the bullpen proved decisive. Some teams managed their rotations better, especially in the first two matches, to avoid the cutoff of the playoffs. Lesson learned: you have to go all out from the first matches, both in pitching intensity and concentration. In a reduced format, you don’t have the luxury of a slow start.

A psychological revenge
But beyond the tactical aspects, this final also has a mental dimension. These two teams, struggling in the championship, have no doubt taken the time to analyze their weaknesses, reflect on their mistakes, and refocus. Result: they arrive at the Challenge de France with less pressure, more determination, and a certain serenity. This controlled letting go could well be their true strength.

Statistical duel
On the pitching side, Savigny holds the advantage with an ERA of 0.41 against 0.74 for Metz. Two solid performances, but the Lions take a slight lead.
Regarding the JFL rule, Metz seems better equipped. With Hugo Py and Matheo Launay having already pitched their ten regulation innings, they can now rely on Edward Paredes without constraints. Savigny, on the other hand, has used only six JFL innings (Costes and Chevet).

At the plate, Savigny boasts a .385 batting average against .338 for Metz. A slight offensive superiority confirmed by the performances of Planes, Acuna and OuaYou, who weigh heavily against the Metz trio of Algéni, Pastran and Ruiz. In numbers: 68 at-bats for Savigny against 65 for Metz, 27 runs against 24, 25 hits against 23 — very tight statistics, but the advantage goes to the Lions.
Defensively, it’s Metz that takes the lead with just one error since the start of the Challenge against four for Savigny.

An open final
In terms of confidence, both teams have dominated their respective opponents without being threatened. A slight edge to Savigny, who started strong with two victories in « mercy rule » during the elimination phase.
In the end, Metz seems to benefit from a slight advantage, thanks to a better-managed bullpen, exemplary defensive solidity, and the home-field advantage. But Savigny, with its offensive power and psychological momentum, could well disrupt the hosts’ party at this Challenge de France.
