Incontro con una giocatrice taiwanese internazionale che, durante i suoi studi in Francia, si allena nel club di baseball dei « Ranelagh » a Parigi
BTVF: Chi sei, Jolene Chen-Yun Chang?
J CC: Ciao, mi chiamo Chen-Yun Chang (Jolene), ho 23 anni e vengo da Taiwan. Sono una studentessa di master a Taiwan e ora in Francia come studentessa in scambio.
Sono una giocatrice di baseball a Taiwan, facente parte della squadra sponsorizzata TingShin-Hede. Sono anche membro della nazionale alla Coppa del Mondo WBSC 2021 e alla Coppa d’Asia BFA 2022.
BTVF: La tua squadra è ben classificata nel mondo, ma il tuo paese non segue il baseball femminile come quello maschile. Come lo spieghi?
J CC: Penso che la maggior parte degli sport in ogni paese sia simile: gli sport maschili sono più popolari di quelli femminili. E soprattutto per il baseball a Taiwan, la ragione principale è che nelle Olimpiadi e nei Giochi Asiatici ci sono solo il baseball maschile e il softball femminile, quindi il baseball femminile non sarà così importante per il paese.
BTVF: Sei una lanciatrice di baseball. Qual è stata la tua formazione?
J CC: In realtà sono una lanciatrice ma anche un’infield, quindi faccio entrambi gli allenamenti. La nostra squadra si allena ogni weekend, seguiamo il programma che il nostro allenatore ci dà. Allenamento di squadra, esercizi e bullpen. Oltre all’allenamento di squadra, faccio anche auto-allenamento in palestra, forza e allenamento fisico 5 giorni a settimana.
BTVF: Quando sei arrivata in Francia, hai scoperto un quasi deserto di baseball. Ti ha sorpreso?
J CC: In realtà no, sappiamo tutti che in Europa il calcio, il rugby o il tennis sono più popolari, ma è davvero bello aver trovato una squadra fantastica e poter giocare a baseball insieme!
BTVF: Hai trovato un club, i Ranelagh. Come hai vissuto il loro accoglienza?
J CC: Prima ho cercato su Facebook per trovare un club di baseball a Parigi e ho trovato i Ranelagh. Ho inviato un messaggio sulla loro pagina e ho chiesto se c’era la possibilità di unirmi a loro. Penso che siano stati abbastanza sorpresi e un po’ confusi che una ragazza volesse unirsi, forse perché sono la prima ragazza a farlo. Inoltre, è davvero figo che questa squadra sia internazionale, non ci sono solo giocatori francesi, ma anche giocatori di tutto il mondo, più di 8 paesi diversi.
BTVF: Quali sono i tuoi prossimi eventi sportivi e quelli delle tue squadre nel tuo paese?
J CC: All’inizio del 2023 ci sarà un torneo, sarà la selezione per la Coppa d’Asia 2023, e la Coppa d’Asia si terrà intorno a maggio dell’anno prossimo a Hong Kong.
BTVF: Cosa possiamo augurarti?
J CC: Ogni volta che dico alla gente che sono una giocatrice di baseball, sono confusi e mi chiedono se è softball o baseball? Le donne giocano a baseball? So che rispetto al baseball maschile, quello femminile non è molto popolare, ma ho un obiettivo: far sì che più ragazze possano giocare a baseball nel mondo e godersi il divertimento di questo sport, per far sì che il baseball non sia uno sport solo per uomini.
Forse tornerò presto nel mio paese, ma non vedo l’ora di tornare in Francia per giocare di nuovo con la squadra. Anche se il baseball non è ancora uno sport popolare in Francia, amo davvero l’ambiente qui e mi diverto un mondo.

BTVF: Who are you Jolene Chen-Yun Chang?
J CC: Hello, my name is Chen-Yun Chang (Jolene), 23 years old, from Taiwan. Im a student, studying master degree in Taiwan, and now in France as an exchange student.
I’m a women baseball player in Taiwan, belong to the sponsor team of TingShin-Hede women’s baseball team. Also a national team player of 2021 WBSC World Cup, and 2022 BFA Asia Cup.
BTVF: Your team is well ranked in the world, yet your country does not follow women’s baseball like men’s baseball, how do you explain it?
J CC: I think most of the sports in every country will be the same, men’s sports are more popular than women’s. And especially for the baseball in Taiwan, the main reason is that in Olympic games and Asia games there’s only men’s baseball and women’s softball, therefore women’s baseball won’t be that important for the country.
BTVF: You are a pitcher, what was your training?
J CC: In fact, im a pitcher but also an infilder, so i do both of the training. Our team trains on every weekend, we will follow the schedule what our coach give us. Team training, drills training and the bullpen. Besides the team training, ill do some self-training in the gym, strength and some physical training 5 days a week.
BTVF: When you arrived in France, you discovered an almost desert of baseball, did it surprise you?
J CC: Actually not too surprise, we all know that europe are more popular of football, rugby or tennis, but its really good i find a amazing team and can play baseball together.
BTVF: You found a club » le Ranelagh « , how did you live their reception?
J CC: First i search on facebook to find the baseball club in paris, and i found the le Ranelagh, i message on the page and ask if there’s a chance i can join. I think they’re pretty surprise and kind of confused for a girl joing them, maybe because im the first girl to join the team. In addition, it’s really cool that this team is like an international team, not only players from France, prople are from all around the world, more than 8 different countries.
BTVF: What are your next sporting events and those of your teams in your country?
J CC: There will be a tournement in the start of 2023, will be the selection game of the 2023 Asia cup, and the asia cup will be held around may next year in Hongkong.
BTVF: What can we wish you?
J CC: Every time when i say to people im a baseball player, they’ll comfused and ask again is it softball or baseball? Do women play baseball? I knew that compare to men’s baseball, women’s baseball isn’t that much popular, but I have a goal is to make more girls can play baseball this sports in the world and enjoy the fun of this sport, to make baseball is not a sport only for man.
Maybe im going back to my country soon, but im looking foward to come back France to play with the team again. Even baseball isn’t a popular sport in France yet, but i really love the environment here and i really enjoy.
